Hi all! I met Anne and her son Axel at one of our local vegan potlucks on Whidbey Island a few months ago. I learned that Anne was following a mostly … Read the rest of the post

Product Review: Sunwarrior Plant-Based Protein Powders, Sprouted Barley and Supergreens, Plus How I Used Them

Hi all! Today I’m going to review a few products by Sunwarrior – a company that produces plant-based vegan protein powders and various other biologically active supplements. I’m not usually big on taking protein powders and supplements, but this time I decided to test a few products by Sunwarrior after learning that they are an all-vegan company, and aim to use only ‘clean’ ingredients. The subject of vegan athletic nutrition rings close to home for me these days as I’m getting closer to my second marathon since going vegan (third marathon overall). It’s been proven many times over, including with my own experience, that being vegan is in no way going to put limitations on how well we can perform in endurance sports including running marathons. But one thing I often see people getting confused over is whether or not they should use supplements while training for endurance events, from … Read the rest of the post

Rob’s Birthday, Our Trip to Pasado’s Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, and a Vegan Cooking Class!

Do you ever have a feeling like weekends fly by too quickly? I sure felt that way last weekend! Maybe we just had too much fun? It was Rob’s birthday last Saturday, and since we decided a while ago that experiences, not material things, are the best gifts, I was excited to find out that Pasado’s Safe Haven animal sanctuary was having a tour on its premises AND hosting a vegan cooking class by Fire and Earth Kitchen on that day. So I went on to book the tour as a birthday gift for Rob. On Saturday morning, we started Rob’s birthday weekend off right by having vegan chocolate cake for breakfast! I stayed up till 11 pm the night before making this beauty: A few days earlier, Rob requested a cake that would have chocolate sponge layers and the frosting based on the filling of his favorite Chocolate Peanut Butter … Read the rest of the post

New Review and Giveaway: Journey Bars – Nutrition Bars that are Savory! Plus and Easy Butternut Squash Soup Recipe.

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a representative of Journey Bar, and asked if I would be interested in checking out these savory nutrition bars and possibly creating an everyday recipe with one of them. ‘A SAVORY nutrition bar?’, I thought, ‘That sounds interesting!’ So I decided to give them a try, and today I’m hosting a giveaway to give you a chance to try them out too! Let’s face it: there are tons of nutrition/energy bars out there on the market, but the absolute majority of them are sweet, so much that sometimes they are nothing more than candy bars disguised as a good-for-you snack. As I found out, the creators of Journey Bars – avid world travelers and backpackers – became concerned with this issue, and set out to develop a savory snack bar that would not only be low on sugar, but also deliver nutrition from real food … Read the rest of the post

Hi everyone! Guess what: it’s time for another giveaway here on Vegan Runner Eats blog! I feel extremely blessed for the opportunity to bring so many exciting giveaways to the readers of my blog in the past months, and let you know about great products made by small, family-owned businesses all over the country. Here’s what I’ve got for you today: A few weeks ago I was contacted by a representative of a small, family-owned company that makes a meat replacement product called Neat. She offered me to sample some of their products and tell the world about my experience. At first, I wasn’t very thrilled as I’m not usually big on processed meat replacers, but after looking at the company’s website, I found out that Neat is made from all-natural ingredients like pecans, garbanzo beans, gluten-free oats, cornmeal, garlic, onion and spices, without any unpronounceable weird stuff at all. … Read the rest of the post

New Giveaway: Win a Copy of Mark Sutton’s ‘Heart Healthy Pizza Cookbook: Over 100 Plant-Based Recipes for the Most Nutritious Pizza in the World’, Autographed by the Author!

I’m excited to announce yet another giveaway today on Vegan Runner Eats – this time, the winner will get an autographed copy of ‘Heart Healthy Pizza Cookbook: Over 100 Plant-Based Recipes for the Most Nutritious Pizza in the World’ by Mark Sutton. A few weeks ago just after we moved to Washington state, I received a copy of this cookbook from Mark, and immediately started binge-reading it. You may remember from this post that we ran into trouble with getting our worldly possessions transported to us – it took almost a month for them to cross the country, which made me miss my kitchen supplies like never before and left me unable to cook anything more complicated than a veggie burrito. As I was waiting for my kitchen stuff to arrive, I got plenty of time to familiarize myself with Mark’s pizza cookbook and pick a few recipes to make … Read the rest of the post
